Having a balanced schedule - with courses, some difficult, others easier, allows students to balance the stress that schooling causes in their lives. The list below of the ten easiest courses at the University of Rochester is here to help you schedule a more relaxed semester.
1. AH 101 - Intro to Art and Visual Culture
This course introduces students to aspects of the history of Western painting, sculpture, & architecture from the Renaissance through the present. Students discuss where art's inspiration comes from, such as the influence of the classical past, religion, gender, political power, & the rise of the artist.
2. CSC 161 - Intro to programming
Python programming language is used to give students the basics of using a programming language. Covers basic programming constructs including statements, expressions, variables, conditionals, iteration, and functions, as well as object-oriented programming and graphics. Perfect for any student wishing to learn more about the language of computers.
3. MTH 150 - Discrete Mathematics
The perfect course for any student looking for a refresher on basic math before moving onto more difficult topics. This course includes logic, functions, algorithms, mathematical reasoning, mathematical induction, recurrence relations, techniques of counting, equivalence relations, graphs, trees.
4. AH 207 - Film History: 1989-Present
Exploring global trends in film history from 1989 to the present. Focus will be placed on the development of film making technology and how the financial status of the world changed the way that movies were made.
5. ENG 101 - Maximum English
While the title of the class may not make it sound easy, ENG 101 is the perfect starting place for teaching students about college level reading and writing. Novels, poetry and plays will be read, discussed, and written about.
6. WLN 101 - Yoga
Participants in this course will practice alignment-based yoga, meditation, mindfulness, and breathing practices to promote greater strength, flexibility, attentiveness, and relaxation. Focus is placed on the importance of aligning all parts of your life for whole relaxation.
7. FIN 204 - Principles of Finance
The course content includes a discussion of the financial goals corporations, and other organizations, are likely to have. Teaching students about the importance of tracking cash flow, and the daily affect this has on those who manage their own finances.
8. CSP 568 - Psychology of Health
The psychology of health focuses on the importance of taking care of one's thoughts and feelings as a form of healing. A body is not healthy unless the brain believes the same.
9. EES 310 - Science and Sustainability
This course allows students to review many topics in the natural and social sciences that relate to environmental change. Students will be taught about how the earth creates sustainable materials, and what each person can do to help the problem.
10. MHS 121 - Music and Urban Culture: Europe
In this course students will explore the relationship between music and city culture from the ninth to the mid-eighteenth centuries. Focus will be placed on how urbanization, war, and civic politics shaped the life and work of musicians from Léonin to Handel. Students will interpret many different sounds and genres of music, and use that to compare the songs to the culture of the area at the time.
Choosing a couple of easy classes is great because it allows you to devote more time to harder classes. Choose wisely, and be sure to factor the amount of work each class takes. A good rule of thumb is two hours of homework per credit hour for the course. While it may not be the best decision to take an entire semester of really easy courses, it can easily be a great GPA booster! Good luck choosing courses for next semester.
